Authorities are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a 68-year-old Easton man on Sunday in Thomaston, Connecticut.
According to the Connecticut State Police, the victim has been identified as John Kastanaras, who sustained fatal injuries after losing control of his motorcycle while traveling on the southbound Exit 40 off-ramp from Route 8.
Preliminary findings indicate that Kastanaras was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when, for reasons that remain under investigation, he lost control of the bike and struck a metal guardrail. The impact caused severe injuries, prompting an immediate emergency response.
A LifeStar medical helicopter was initially requested due to the seriousness of the crash. However, emergency personnel ultimately transported Kastanaras by Thomaston Emergency Medical Services to Waterbury Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries despite the efforts of medical professionals.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that Kastanaras died from blunt-force injuries to the head, neck, and torso. His death has been officially ruled an accidental fatality.
The crash led to the temporary closure of the southbound lanes and Exit 40 area on Route 8 as Connecticut State Police conducted an on-scene investigation. Troopers carefully documented evidence, examined the motorcycle, and worked to determine the circumstances that caused the rider to lose control.
