Amy Jo Schlafer, née Weist, passed away on July 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. Born on May 12, 1966, in Kenton, Ohio, she was the cherished daughter of Phil and Le Ann Weist.
While attending St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, Amy met the love of her life, Jon Schlafer. Their marriage on May 9, 1986, marked the beginning of a remarkable 40-year journey filled with faith, adventure, and enduring love. As the wife of a United States Army officer, Amy embraced military life with resilience and grace, making homes in Hawaii, Germany, and several states while forming lasting friendships wherever life took them.
Committed to helping others, Amy earned her bachelor’s degree from Chaminade University of Honolulu and built a career centered on service. She worked in social work before joining the U.S. Army Education Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where she guided soldiers as they pursued educational opportunities and prepared for successful futures.
Family was always Amy’s greatest priority. She was a devoted wife and an extraordinary mother to her son, Ben, supporting him through every milestone, school activity, Scout event, and sporting competition. Her encouragement, love, and unwavering presence shaped the lives of those closest to her.
Amy also embraced life’s adventures. She treasured traveling, especially returning to Hawaii and exploring Europe. A lifelong Green Bay Packers fan and proud supporter of Kansas State University, she enjoyed celebrating the teams she loved. She also had a deep affection for animals and fondly remembered her beloved dogs, Gizmo, Molly, and Bear.
Amy is survived by her husband, Jon; her son, Ben, and daughter-in-law, Ann; her father, Phil Weist; siblings; extended family; and countless friends whose lives she enriched. She will be remembered for her generous heart, adventurous spirit, and the unconditional love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
