Elizabeth “Lib” Deann Carney, of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, at the age of 50 while receiving care at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Her passing has left her family, friends, coworkers, and community mourning the loss of a woman remembered for her compassion, resilience, and unwavering love for others.
Born on March 22, 1976, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Paul L. Carney and Rosie Lee (South) Carney, Lib lived a life defined by kindness and service. She found great fulfillment working at McClendon’s Garden Center in McAlester, where she nurtured flowers, plants, and landscapes with the same care she extended to everyone around her. Nature brought her peace, and she took pride in creating beauty wherever she went.
Above all, Lib treasured her family. She was a devoted mother and a proud grandmother affectionately known as “Nona.” Her granddaughters—Serenity, Aria, Harper Fox, and bonus granddaughter Layla—were the greatest joy of her life, and she cherished every moment spent making lasting memories with them.
Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2024, Lib faced every challenge with remarkable strength and determination. Even after the disease returned, she continued to inspire those around her through her courage, hope, and unwavering spirit.
She is survived by her mother, Rosie Carney; her children, Jordaan Carney, Adam Cooke, Ashton Conley and her husband Garrett, and Arianna Boone; her grandchildren; her brothers, Eugene Hobbs and Richard Carney; numerous aunts, uncles, extended family members, and her cherished coworkers at McClendon’s Garden Center.
A memorial service celebrating Lib’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home Chapel. Though deeply missed, Elizabeth “Lib” Deann Carney’s legacy of love, generosity, and resilience will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
