Gaylord Y. Barkman Beach City, OH Death-Obituary: Beach City Community Mourns Beloved Mennonite Minister and Missionary

The Beach City, Ohio, community is mourning the passing of Gaylord Y. Barkman, a devoted Mennonite minister, missionary, husband, father, and grandfather who passed away on July 13, 2026, at the age of 61 following respiratory failure at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. Surrounded by his loving wife and children during his final moments, Gaylord’s passing has left a profound sense of loss among his family, church, and the many lives he faithfully touched throughout decades of ministry.

Born on March 28, 1965, to the late Raymond J. Barkman and Clara (Mullet) Barkman, Gaylord lived a life firmly rooted in faith, humility, and service. In 1992, he married Celesta Kauffman, and together they shared 34 years of marriage built on love, devotion, and a shared commitment to Christian values. Their family became a reflection of the faith they cherished and the compassion they extended to others.

Gaylord began serving as a minister at Christian Life Mennonite Church in 2001, faithfully leading and encouraging his congregation for many years. His calling later took him and his family to Chiang Mai, Thailand, where they spent six years serving as missionaries. Through his work as an IGo pastor, he shared the Gospel, strengthened communities, and demonstrated Christ’s love through both word and action.

After returning to Ohio, Gaylord joined Ferra Manufacturing, where he built lasting relationships through his integrity, kindness, and genuine concern for others.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Celesta; six children and their spouses; 13 treasured grandchildren; brothers; and numerous extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20, at Christian Life Mennonite Church, with visitation scheduled on July 18 and 19.

Gaylord Y. Barkman will be remembered for his unwavering faith, servant’s heart, and lifelong dedication to God, his family, and his community. His legacy of love, compassion, and Christian service will continue to inspire generations to come. May he rest in eternal peace.
