Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who lost his life in a single-vehicle crash in New Sewickley Township, Pennsylvania, on the evening of July 13. The victim has been identified as John Paytas, 65, whose tragic death has left family, friends, and the local community mourning his loss.
According to Beaver County Coroner David J. Gabauer, Paytas died from blunt force injuries to the head and chest sustained during the crash. The coroner ruled his death an accident following an examination completed on July 14. Officials have not publicly released Paytas’ hometown.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Fezell Road. According to New Sewickley Township Police Chief Gregory Carney, Paytas was traveling north on his motorcycle when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the motorcycle left the roadway. The vehicle then traveled over an embankment before overturning multiple times.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported. Despite their efforts, Paytas was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the severe injuries he sustained.
Investigators confirmed that no other vehicles or individuals were involved, indicating the incident was a single-motorcycle crash. Authorities continue working to determine the factors that caused the motorcycle to leave the roadway, and no additional details have been released regarding the circumstances leading up to the accident.
The crash prompted the temporary closure of Fezell Road between Ridge Road and Blackswoods Road for approximately three hours while investigators documented the scene and gathered evidence. The New Sewickley Fire District, Cranberry EMS, and the Beaver County Coroner’s Office assisted township police during the emergency response.
The New Sewickley Township Police Department continues its investigation and has not announced whether any additional findings have been made.
Heartfelt condolences are extended to the family, friends, and loved ones of John Paytas during this difficult time. As they mourn his unexpected passing, the community joins them in remembering his life while awaiting the completion of the official investigation. Authorities are expected to provide further information if additional details become available.
